Principal's Message

Dear Students, Parents, and Community Members:

Welcome to the Dr. Doug Sears Learning Center (DDSLC) which serves as the hub for two educational options. The Learning Center serves high school aged students with credit recovery. The Alternative School is designed for students in grades one through twelve with Independent Study being the main instructional vehicle. Both options provide alternative academic opportunities for students to progress academically, complete requirements for a high school diploma, and develop as life long learners in a rapidly changing and culturally diverse society. We are committed to promoting the Vision, Mission, and Core Values of the Temple City Unified School District.

We offer a strong character education program, a comprehensive guidance and counseling program, college and career preparation, as well as community service learning opportunities.  In addition, communication, collaboration, creativity and critical thinking skills are emphasized.

Students are expected to arrive on time and to attend school every day. The school day is divided into 6 periods. This plan provides students with both directed instruction and the opportunity to work independently. Our schedule and curriculum parallel that of Temple City High School. This will ensure a smoother and successful transfer for those students who wish to transfer back to the comprehensive high school.

We are proud to state that we continue to make progress following our WASC action plan and single plan for student achievement.  We appreciate your continued cooperation and support of our efforts to bring the very best to our students. Please feel free to contact us with any questions or suggestions that you may have. We are here to work with you. Together we can make a positive difference in young lives of our students.
